Decades of community photography. Three websites hacked and taken offline. A career that deserves to continue — and a community that can make it happen.

A Career Built Around Making Communities Visible

⚠ Her sites are currently undergoing a rebuild. Three domains — years of archived work, client contacts, and commission pathways — were taken down by a hack in September 2026. Donations sustain her work, community programs, and the full design and rebuild of her sites.

Lisa Hartouni has spent decades using photography and community storytelling to document the people, neighborhoods, and movements that shape Southern California. From organizing tenants and building neighborhood associations in Santa Monica, to working as a photojournalist, independent photographer, and web designer, Lisa has built a life around making change visible.

Over the years, that work has grown into deeply rooted long-term projects: Intersections: Portraits of Neighborhoods, archival work connected to the Manzanar Pilgrimage, and a moon photography series created through years of patient observation. Her photographs have documented social justice struggles involving detention, voting rights, and police abuse — always grounded in the belief that communities deserve to see themselves reflected with care.

Now Lisa needs help to preserve and sustain that work. Contributions will restore her websites, set up print sales so she can earn from her archive, and lay the groundwork for a more stable path forward — one where a hack can never hold her work hostage again.

Two Milestones. Real Outcomes.

This isn’t a vague fundraising total. Here’s exactly what each milestone unlocks:

$2,000
Microgoal — First unlock
  • Initial security response: isolate the breach, audit what was compromised
  • Restore access to site archives and existing content
  • Set up tools to accept commissions and sell prints again
  • Lay groundwork for grant eligibility
$15,000
Full Goal — Complete rebuild
  • Fully design and rebuild all sites from scratch
  • Full CMS restoration + database recovery
  • Security hardening so this can’t happen again
  • Etsy storefronts + e-commerce setup
  • Fiscal sponsorship (future donations become tax-deductible)
